No matter how you get a website, make sure it doesn’t have any of the following potentially fatal flaws:• Broken links: Test your site regularly to make sure all hyperlinks work like they’re supposed to.

• Orphan pages: Every page of your site needs an easy-to-find link back to the homepage.

• Too-advanced technology: Whenever your website requires a download of new software to be viewed, you’ll lose most shoppers. Test your website on the cheapest, least advanced computer you can find. If it doesn’t look fine on a cheap monitor, try again.

• Outdated information: Keep your website current.

• Disabled “back” button: This is extremely annoying to visitors. Make sure they can retrace their steps.

• Nonexistent or hard-to-find phone number and address: You need multiple ways for customers to reach you. Put the information in a “Contact Us” button so they don’t have to hunt for it. If you have a brick-and-mortar store, putting a photo of the physical storefront, along with the address, on your homepage inspires consumer confidence.
